Debating on the motion that seeks to ban the sending of overseas Filipino workers to the Middle East, the team from University of the Philippines Diliman successfully advanced to the finals after hurdling a very strong team from Ateneo de Zamboanga. The winning team represented the affirmative side and was comprised of Joan Atienza, Aaron Chan and Anna Arcellana.
Ateneo de Zamboanga was represented by Alzhoheir Hajim, Keeshia Alix and Henry Segovia. Segovia was named best speaker for the round by the panel of adjudicators while Hajim was once again adjudged as the texters’ choice. The former has yet to lose in the texters’ choice poll.
Ateneo de Zamboanga reached the finals of the first Square Off Championship with Hajim and Segovia. UP Diliman was beaten by Ateneo de Zamboanga in the semifinals during the first season.
The winner of the competition will be subsidized for the 4th Asian Universities Debating Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next month.
