ABS-CBN News Channel has propelled collegiate debating into the forefront of mainstream media by holding the Square Off Debate Championship. The show has  been pitting teams from all over the country to debate on controversial national issues. The show airs smack dab in the realm of prime time - Wednesdays at 8 pm. Currently, the show is using a modified Asian Parliamentary format. The last team standing at the end of the knock-out playoffs would win an all-expense paid trip to the  IIU Asian Universities Debating Championship this May. The octofinals have drawn to a close and the show is now airing the  first quarterfinal rounds.

Ateneo de Manila University won the first Square Off Championship. Sharmila Parmanand and Charisse Boromeo won the right to be sponsored by the show for the Worlds Universities  Debating Championship in Thailand earlier this year.
